New Home Update

Over the weekend, Jason and I took our loose ideas about paint colors for our new house and nailed them down. Sherwin Williams has my favorite selections of colors. We have quite a few favorites of theirs through the years. We used Quietude in the living room at our last house for many years and loved it. When we were ready for a change, we painted over it with Greek Villa, a new favorite. We really liked the color of the nursery/kids room at our last house, Ellie Gray.

There are a few other reasons I love Sherwin Williams: 1. Color palettes for Photoshop that I use to mock up rooms and make inspiration boards and 2. they have a plethora of cool web tools to help with color selection including ChipIt! (where you choose a photo you like that’s online and it creates a palette for you), Color Visualizer (where you can try on different colors on a house or room that’s similar to your own) and ColorSnap (an app where you can take a photo of a color you like and it matches it to one of their formulas). This is not a paid endorsement for SW—however, if anyone at corporate is reading this, let’s talk!—I’m just a fan of their colors and their color selection products.

Blah, blah, blah. You’re probably just wondering what we picked for our house, right?

For Jason’s studio: Rushing River

For my office/laundry room: Melangé Green (see below…same as one wall in the kids room)

For an accent wall in the living room: Drizzle

For the hall bathroom: Window Pane

Sidenote: I’ve been wanting to use Window Pane for over 4 YEARS! I have had this file saved on my computer that long and I have no idea where it was from:

For an accent wall in the den: chalkboard (I don’t know if SW makes one, but that’s our plan)

For an accent wall in Ali’s room: Rosebay (and curtains, from her nursery plan)

For an accent wall in future kids room: Melangé Green (according to kids room plan, plus a random duvet cover we might use one day

And for the exterior, after much deliberation and 12 photoshop mock-ups that I emailed to Jason while he was in Oklahoma and Arkansas over the weekend (yes, we made all these decisions long-distance…) we have chosen:

Main siding color: Cast Iron

Accent color/doors: Restful

New Home Update

The framing is just about done now, minus a few little additions here and there. The floors are all swept and the house is wrapped in plywood. The roof has been wrapped but not shingled yet. The soffits are almost all wrapped in HardieBacker. This stage is really exciting for me. I love being able to walk through each room and really get a sense of the size, even more now that the outside is wrapped and the floors are cleared. These are all Jason’s pictures:

On Monday morning we met with some window sub-contractors. We’re getting bids for vinyl windows and store-front commercial windows and we’ll be making a decision based on price, appearance and function – probably prioritized in that order. Very soon the plumber and electrician will start roughing in lines. We’ve got quotes for different styles/woods for our siding. Things are moving along rapidly now. Every time we go over there it feels a little bit more like our home, and not just our construction site.
