Nashville Preds game last weekend

And here’s the Christmas photo that didn’t get posted in time for last week.
Christmas has arrived at our little mid-century modern ranch. I was pretty excited this year when I asked Jason if we could get down the Christmas decorations and not only did he have no objections but he had an idea for a creative modern West Elm inspired Christmas tree! (Apparently, his Christmas spirit returned when he quit Starbucks. Yay!)

My cherished Shiny Brite ornaments my Granny gave me a few years before she passed away. They’re from the 1950s or 1960s.

We’re minimalists even at the holidays.

Our neighbors on either side have icicles draped across the front of their ranches. I’m afraid this wreath looks a bit Grinch-y in comparison. I’m thinking of lining the big front windows with white lights from the inside (if I can find some working strands.)
Thanksgiving was so much fun this year! I had two sets of aunts & uncles and three of my cousins in town, plus Jason’s parents and my parents. We all spend the day at my parent’s house eating and playing lots of games—”hand & foot” (cards), mexican train and chicken foot (both dominoes), Nintendo Wii, Cranium).

I love how my parents pose but try not to look like they’re posing. And, someone snapped this photo of Jason and I while we were looking at a different camera.

My mama is so cute! Uncle Barrie taught Jason how to golf on the Wii.

Dad and Aunt Linda carve the turkey. (We finally convinced them to use our electric knife!)

Thank God for family and good times! I hope your Thanksgiving was blessed.

These photos were taken November 21, 2009.

We haven’t/hadn’t yet had a frost so our banana tree is still alive and at least 12 feet tall.

All the rain has caused some beautiful moss to grow in one of our bamboo plants.

Our fire pit has seen some good use this year.

The giant pine tree in our front year provides an endless amount of pine cones, pine mulch and shade. The lavender is still going strong. Although I’ve seen a few birds go in and out of our birdhouse, no one has made a permanent home there.

I love this frosty blue-green sage. Lucy, our chocolate cocker spaniel, just turned 5 and has been scaring us a bit with some strange health episode.

We are so crazy about her. Isn’t she just adorable? She’s as sweet and as soft as she looks. (She found a new “bed” in the throw blanket storage box behind the couch.)

The heavenly bamboo out front is producing lots of pretty red berries.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I love taking this time of the year to reflect on all the blessings I am so thankful for:
my God
my husband
my family
my dear friends
my church & my pastor
my job
my home
my doggie
and YOU – my blog readers! I’m thankful for you! Thank you for taking the time to read my updates. It’s so fun to be part of the blog world and I love love love getting comments and suggestions from friends and strangers. Thank you for sharing this piece of the inter webs with me.
I love surprises but I’m picky. Kind of a catch-22, huh? I offered to my husband that I could buy myself a Christmas present this year AND buy him a Christmas present. He seemed pretty relieved to not have to shop so that was our plan. When I found out my gift was on sale last week, I convinced my mama to go shopping with me after our weekly lunch date.

If you know anything about my mama, you know bundling up her kids in cozy layers is a top priority. Warm sweaters, warm socks, warm slippers, warm hats, warm scarfs, etc. The fact that we’re all self-sufficient adults doesn’t change this instinct a bit. So naturally she jumped on the opportunity to buy this warm coat for me for Christmas. Sweet!
Now what to get myself for Christmas …
Our beloved chocolate cocker spaniel puppy, Lucy, turns 5 today!
Lucy gave us a scare over the weekend which led to a lot of spoiling and extra cuddling. She must have pulled a muscle or something on our mile walk on Saturday. When we got home Lucy seemed to have trouble walking and especially going up steps or jumping up on a bench or couch. She was doing a lot of groaning and her legs were shaking.
But, I’m happy to report she seems to be doing very well now and is happy as a clam! She still can’t quite run and leap like usual but she doesn’t appear to be in pain.
If you’ve never read the story of her rescue, you can read it here.
We had a great weekend with our friends Dave and Emily visiting from PA. I didn’t take any pictures over the weekend, though. Whoops!
Here are a few highlights:
• Hatch Show Print on Friday afternoon
• Buca di Beppo for dinner
• The guys jammed together while the girls enjoyed the almost 80º weather with a walk Saturday morning
• Lunch at Baja Fresh
• Mac store, mall, thrift stores* and chillin at Dan & Ginger’s house
* got 2 new MCM treasures! I’ll share later this week
• Party Saturday night with bonfire and games. Lots of yummy fall food: hot dogs, smores, cheese dip, homemade soft pretzels, homemade donuts, hot spiced apple cider
• Sunday church and then lunch at another friend from PA’s house
• A restful evening at home Sunday
We said our goodbyes on Monday morning. Hopefully D&E will be back to the promised land soon! I’m thankful I took the day off Monday to get caught up around the house and get a nap after a fun but busy weekend!
More about our tiling adventures tomorrow!

I hope this coming year is so wonderful for you!
You are a beautiful woman of God and I am so thankful for our friendship.
I love that you have a mid-century modern house now!
It’s been so amazing watching you become a mother over the past year.
I adore your sweet little boy!
Thank you for honoring me with the title “Tia Martina.”
Despite the physical distance between us, I know you are always there for me.
And I hope you know I would do anything for you and your family.
May God’s blessings shower down on you, the daughter of the King, this year!

Lucy loves it when I’m working from home so she can sit on my lap and keep my legs warm.
Have a happy weekend!
